The margin is controlled by the variable WRAP.
One possbility to change it is "System>S-Lang Command" (M-Shift-X) and then
WRAP = 45 (or what your new value should be).
If you want to change the setting on a regular basis, you might consider
writing a function for this and bind it to a key. (Ask again for advice if
needed.)
