Have a look at the help for TAB and untab. Use e.g. with
define python_mode_hook ()
{
# convert existing TABs to spaces
untab();
# tabs are never used to produce whitespace.
TAB = 0;
# continue with python customization, e.g.
# comments with comment.sl
set_comment_info ("python" , "# " , "" , 2|4);
# for use of list_routines with python ...
custom_variable("python_list_routines_regexp", [%"^import[ \t]",
%"^from[ \t]",
"^class[ \t]",
"^def[ \t]"]);
# my private packages
putenv("PYTHONPATH=/home/milde/.python/packages");
