It is cluttering the files. I would not like sending mails that start
with
% jed: word_chars="0-9a-zA-Z¿-ÖØ-öø-ÿ"; TAB=8; mode=email;
So, it might not be sensible to have this as a default. For machine
language modes things can be different.
