jed2: error() without Run-Time Error

Hi,

does anyone know how to make an error message (red text in the status
bar) like it happens with error(), but not produce an Run-Time Error.
This is something that shouldn't get caught anywhere. But I don't want to
see them all in *traceback*.

I use error() to signal errors to the used. Is this wrong?
