It is in every modern Linux distribution (but I can tell what "modern"
means...).
Anyways, if pkg-config is not found, './configure' will go on, and Xft
support will be disabled. The user can still enable it editing src/Makefile
as before.
I have tried renaming 'pkg-config', and configure says:
-------- quote
[...]
checking for the slang library and header files ... yes: /usr/local/lib and
/usr/local/include
checking for pkg-config... no
*** The pkg-config script could not be found. Make sure it is
*** in your path, or set the PKG_CONFIG environment variable
*** to the full path to pkg-config.
*** Or see http://www.freedesktop.org/software/pkgconfig to get pkg-config.
configure: creating ./config.status
[...]
-------- end quote
Maybe we can customize the text above, or add a line at the end of configure
output, as jed does now for GPM support.
Thanks!
Dino
