Newbie jed building problem (OS X)

Hi,

I try to build jed from the sources on Max OS X 10.4.5. I have
downloaded slang and run ./configure and make without errors. The
same precedure with jed, but when running ./configure all goes well
until the error: "unable to find the slang library and header 
file slang.h."

In the jed Makefile.in I have absolute paths as follows below. What
could be wrong?
