iconv module documentation or examples?

Dear Jed users,

The utf8helper.sl mode can convert between latin1 and utf8 encodings using a
"poor mans" implementation in SLang.

OTOH, there is a iconv SLang module that promises a cleaner, safer and
faster conversion, not only to/from latin1.

Unfortunately, I could not find any documentation or examples on how to use
the functions provided by the iconv module. Does anyone have experience or
working examples on how to convert a buffer or a string using the iconv
module?
