Hallo Michele,
Do you have a directory ~/.jed? From
/usr/share/doc/jed/README.Debian-startup:

I have BOTH:
So you must move your .jedrc to ~/.jed/jed.rc. The Filesystem Hierarchy
Standard recommends to place only one entry in the home directory.
I can't believe it was that simple! Just a matter of moving my .jedrc into
that directory. Too bad they didn't arrange things in order to just tell
me I should have. As a user, as opposed to an admin, I don't think I was
supposed to know...
This solves the problem on the debian installation which is the one I'll
using most from now on. It remains on gentoo: I naively and blindly tried
to apply the same solution there, but it doesn't work. More precisely, it
doesn't even load my .jedrc if I move it into ~/.jed so it's clear enough
that it's NOT what I have to do. Followind J.E.D's suggestion I get the
following output:
blazar@perlmonk ~ $ jed -batch
loading /usr/share/jed/lib/site.sl
loading /usr/share/jed/lib/os.sl
loading /usr/share/jed/lib/menus.sl
loading /etc/jed.conf
loading /usr/share/jed/lib/compress.sl
loading /usr/share/jed/lib/modeinfo.sl
loading /home/blazar/.jedrc
loading /usr/share/slsh/local-packages/~/.jed/home-lib.sl
Unable to load /usr/share/slsh/local-packages/~/.jed/home-lib.sl
My colors are never loaded!
