I took this line out because it is a pain to change the colour with it.
Creating the syntax table for diff is fast (at least with
computers not older than 10 years).

I recommend to use autoload() instead of require() whenever possible,
though:

I have in my jed.rc:

add_mode_for_extension("diff", "diff");  % ´diff´ output
add_mode_for_extension("diff", "patch");  % ´diff´ output
