Oh, 'plain TeX' does not allow \ldots in text mode, only in math mode.
I didn't know 'latex' allowed that, so I wasn't even thinking about
math x text modes. Thanks for pointing this out.

Given this difference between plain TeX and LaTeX, this would be preferred.
I use plain TeX and mostly in math mode, so having {\ldots} really causes
me troubles and that motivated the patch.
But I'm not capable of refining the logic of texcom.sl to distinguish
between math and text modes, so I'll simply use my patch here.
