is slightly misleading, I think.
About the ~ key; Are you using jed via ssh? The ~ key is an escape
character for ssh allowing you to suspend the ssh session.
Hmm ... Yes, via ssh. Funny: emacs and vi do it, too. Never noticed,
that this also works within an editor.
