In this case the current jed behaviour is better, no question!

Yes, I would like to have it this way.
What about a configuration variable how jed should handle symlinks?
So, every user could decide which way symlinks are handled.
The current behaviour should be default, to minimize user confusion.

I started with backups.sl some days ago, but regarding this symlink
question I did not use it.
Meanwhile I use my own versions.sl with a different naming scheme.
