What font did you use? Try something like:
xjed -fn 10x20
Also, what is your locale? If it is UTF-8 one (e.g., es_ES.UTF-8),
you might try an ISO10646 font such as:
xjed -fn -Misc-Fixed-Medium-R-Normal--20-200-75-75-C-100-ISO10646-1
