I have not touched the isearch code in more than a decade.  It was
designed to mimick the way emacs 18.x performed isearch, which at the
time, used a single byte (e.g., Ctrl-s) to control isearch.  As such,
it does not support keys that send multiple bytes.  I do not think
that it would be too hard to change this, but I have not looked at the
code for quite a while.
