[jed-users] compiling slang fails on Ubuntu 12.04

I am trying to build jed from scratch for Ubuntu 12.04.
First, I tried to compile slang, but I get errors on make:

libslang.so.2.2.4 created in /sw/src/slang-2.2.4/src/elfobjs.
The link libslang.so to libslang.so.2.2.4 was also created.
