I was able to use compile and use jed and most under cygwin.  I
suspect that you may not have the appropriate terminfo files
installed on your system.  You should have a file called "cygin"
located in, e.g., /usr/share/terminfo/c/.  If you do not, then your
cygwin installation may be incomplete.
