I am pleased to announce the availability of a new S-Lang module for
the creation and manipulation of 1-d and 2-d histograms. This module
should prove extremely useful to anyone who is manipulating data via
the S-Lang scripting language.
Also included with the module is a small demo program called evt2img
which reads a Chandra X-ray Observatory event file and produces a
so-called "true-color image" for selected energy bands. The resulting
image may be saved in the form of a PNG or JPEG file. The evt2img
script was created in a relatively short period of time to illustrate
the power of the histogram and GTK modules. See
<http://space.mit.edu/CXC/software/slang/modules/hist/evt2img.html>
for how the script was used to create an image of the supernova
remnant E0102.
For additional information about the histogram module as well as
instructions for downloading the source code, please visit

Enjoy,
--John
