There is no public interface to the interpreter's associative array
objects that is independent of the interpreter. Have you considered
having slrn startup by reading some /usr/share/slrn/slrn.sl file?
This would give you the ability to exploit the strengths of the
interpreter instead of coding some things in C. Alternatively, you
could embed some slang interpreter constructs into the C code itself.
