I'm pretty happy with JED so far. One of the things I like about it,
actually, is that I don't have to use it in Emacs mode. I used to use
Emacs several years ago, but I've forgotten all the key bindings and I
don't really them right now. So I switched JED to the CUA bindings
that all my GUI apps use.
There is much to like about JED. It's a programming editor, but it
provides a drop-down menu for those of us who don't know all the
features. It is a console editor (I don't always want to start a GUI).
And it has support for every language I can think of. Even Lisp.
The only annoyance I have with JED right now is that it wants to
indent MATLAB and Fortran using 2 spaces. I don't know why it does
that. Other languages are indented with 4 spaces. :-(
Daniel.

Jed has provided me with an attractive fast emacs clone for years, including nice fonts even. Now you should try to understand the difference between what ^Y does and ^C^Y. I can't quite figure it out myself.
